My Second Receiver Died

I have just had my second receiver die in my home thater setup. I am using Jamo speakers and an Integra DTR-6.6 receiver. Everything was working great but now my receiver has no output. My first receiver was a Sherwood Newcastle which was cheap but sounded great. I assumed that the Sherwood was jsut junk, but when the Integra went bad I had to wonder what the root cause was. I know there are no shorts at the connections and all was working at at one time. Any ideas?

Do you know if your home is subjected to power surges or brown-outs? If so, do you have any power conditioning/protection? My brother had an Integra go south a couple of years ago, and he's convinced that it was because of repeated brown-outs at his place. Apparently, they take a toll on electronics.

Just a thought.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Speaker impedance? Sensitivity? Listening distance and volume habits?

Sounds like a good idea

First of all, thanks for the reply. I do have frequent brown-outs in my area due to high winds. Perhaps I should use a UPS. I do not use my system very much and never very loud so I am at a real loss as to why this is happening. I have a good surge supressor so the UPS sounds like the easiest solution. Thanks again.

Did the receiver go out during a brownout?
Which Jamo speakers? I checked one and it was 4 ohms. I think they all are. Not sure about the Integra's capability though.

The Integra will play into 4 ohms without any problem.
Sounds like the brown out problem is the most plausible so far.

Another possibility is a loose neutral at your main panel.
Did a service call on an apartment building right after it opened.
Tenants were complaining of having micros, stereos & TVs getting burned up. After taking the cover off the MD Panel, I discovered a loose neutral.
Do you know an electrician?
