My Rythmik FV18 is Broken. Next steps?

Well,

Some not so good news. This evening i went to go switch on my two FV18 rythmik subs. As i was listening to music at a low volume i kept hearing a rattle. Almost like a baby rattle. Initially i thought that was the source . I kept looking at all the kids toys thinking, “im not playing it loud enough to shake any toy”.

Then i got close to my front woofer and i located the sound.

it was coming from the subwoofer box. Almost like behind the subwoofer its self. The subwoofer still moved slightly, but very weak. The noise was on every bass hit but was quite other wise. I would describe it as a very fuzzy ring or rattle every bass hit/note.

the other woofer is performing without issue. Both subs were purchased at the same time. Early 2019. They are the metal cone version.

Looking for help on what the issue may be and on next steps.

Thanks for the help.

Contact Rythmik would be my first recommendation. Sounds like a driver issue, since it powers on.

I used a Rythmik amp with a custom sub and they were very helpful. Since the FV18 is still being sold, I think you shouldn't have a problem.

It sounds to me as if the driver has a cone voice coil separation. That is something metal cone drivers are somewhat prone to, as it is much harder to get a good bond between the VC former and cone. I personally favor metal cone drivers on the whole, but they do have downsides and this is one of them.

If that is the case the driver will need replacement or reconing.

I personally agree with this assessment.

Rythmik asked me to play a 20hz test tone. I did as much and sent them a video. I’ll see if i can post that here. I believe it is a VC issue for sure. Never mind can’t get a movie on here.

Any idea on how Rythmik is going to support your issue yet? You can always use another service to host your vids/files and provide a link....
