Hey. New to this forum. looking to learn more about acoustics and shhhtuff.

Just wanted your guys opinion on what i should do about placing my speakers because i have a huge windowsill type thing ( you'll see in the pics ). am i right in thinking this will contribute alot of bad stuff .

Also is my placement of the foam and bass traps half acceptable? oh and should i really invest in some on the ceiling ?

by the way i have two pieces of acoustic foam behind each monitor and two behind the computer screen. with a bass trap in all corners except for one which is on its way soon. and the desk is about 60cm away from the window at the longest point of the windowsill itself

probs gonna get more foammmm

cheers

Hey Fred! Our Acoustics Primer has tons of information on the basics of treating a room and what to look out for, you can read it by going to our "Education" link on our website (linked in my signature)

Your monitors placed as is should be fine. Even though windows are reflective, they're usually thin enough to let some of the bass 'escape' out the window. This sounds bad but in reality, it keeps the room from being too "boomy" (which leads to bass sounding muddy)

All first reflection points should be treated - side walls AND ceilings. The placement of the foam is okay, but unfortunately foam "bass" traps aren't really bass traps. We did tests of the difference between supposed foam bass traps and our standard GIK 244 Bass Traps and the foam didn't alter much at all under 250 Hz (Not even with 16 of them!) so I would recommend going with the fiberglass or mineral wool panels.

You might want to use the foam on the walls to reduce 'flutter echo' (the annoying ping sound you hear when you clap your hands) instead of behind the computer monitors.
