my parent purchased me a tv for christmas, a sammy 27".. it was really nice, but i plugged it in and i noticed there where colers (RGB) in each corner... so i returned it to BB where they got it and applied the money twards a 30" widescreen directview...

after reading all the bad stories about the sammy 30" WS i didnt want to go that route... so i found the LG 30FS4D and the price point is awesome i think i got it out the door for under 600, and after i used my store credit i think i only had to shell out 20 bucks out of my own wallet...

anyhow they had to order it, and it should be here begining of next week, i was hoping for today... but i dont think its going to work out that way :-(

hope its here for the OSU game.. hahaha

ive already got a short list of dvds to "break it in" with... blood diamond (shhh dont tell anyone),boondock saints, sleepy hollow....

oh and ive already ordered and recieved my hdmi and TOSlink from blue jeans cables... no all i need to to is deside weter i want to wait for blu ray to get cheeper or buy a upconverting dvd player.......

cant wait guys....

ok well its set up and working, and looks AWESOME... this is my first HD set and ive got some questions...

when i watch the HD channels (OTA HD) there are black bars on each side... are there ways to get rid of that and make it display in full widescreen?

Sounds like your TV is wide screen? You need to go into the TV menu and hopefully it has features to zoom or stretch, but that may distort the picture some.
How is it on movies on those channels?

I unfortunately haven't experienced many HD sets. But with mine I have the option of Wide, Wide zoom, Zoom, and Full. Full will stretch all content to 16:9, wide zoom will fill the whole screen and raise it some of the screen so help with the drastic stretch. That is you best bet. If you were using a cable/satallite box you would have options in there menus for what TV aspect ratio you have via 4:3 or 16:9 as wellas using a DVD player. Hope that helps./

Not all HD stations broadcast wide screen programs all the time.

Some programs ARE broadcast in the 16:9 mode that these TV's are designed for but most programs are recorded and broadcast in the 4:3 mode that fits standard TV's perfectly.

As others have mentioned, you have several options here. It all boils down to personal choice, but they all involve either stretching the 4:3 picture to fit the longer 16:9 screen (where everyone looks short and squat), cutting off part of the top and bottom of the 4:3 picture, or something somewhere in between them. Explore them all and choose the one that suits you.

My preferences are to accept the natural picture afforded by leaving the black bars alongside the picture but YMMV.
