Hey, I havn't been here in ahwile, mostly becuase half of everyone here hates me.

Anyways.

I just bought a 12" Dayton Audio 180w sub driver, dual voice coil.

I'll be building a box here soon, and buying an amp, any suggestions or tips I may want to be aware of?

PM WmAx and send him the T/S parameters of the driver. He can suggest a good box design for it.

Or, get WinISD and input them yourself and see what the response is like in different boxes.

So sheep is telling me to make it sealed, not ported.

Based on the sig, I would surmize it is for music? If so, I would tend to agree with Sheep. Depends on the specs though, it may be better suited to a vented enclosure.

It's for music, I gave sheep the specs, he says sealed.

Ok, So I took Winisd and put in my subs values, and something strange came up.

I converted the meters of the box to inches, and well, here are the values, what went wrong?

These are meters:

W:0.157
H:0.230
D:.109

Inches:

W:6.25
H:9.05
D:4.29

Ok, the subs a 12", somethings wrong lol.

Half of me hates you? Which half? I'll have a talk with the other side of me.

Nice pics. I like the Dayton Audio line. Did you say sealed? What are you driving it with, Dayton, Bash, other?

If you are wiring it in Parallel OR Series:

21.25” x 13.13” x 8.117”

Or

A little larger than a 1 cf box Sealed

Wiring each VC separately changed the box size to a very large box.

I also attached the suggested box size from Dayton

I'll be wiring it in series.

One of my freinds said it is the most practical way.

Can some explain parallel and series wiring on a DVC?

It's just like wiring series or parallel with any device.

[+Amp]---- +|Coil 1|- --- +|Coil 2|- ----[-Amp] Series

In parallel, you could connect the amp wires to the + and - terminals of coil one, then connect jumpers from coil one to the terminals of coil two (+ to +, - to - ).

So would series be like this?

Amp + and - attach to first coil + and -, then first coil + and - attach to second coil + and -

I put the diagram in my last post. It says "series" next to it.

Coil 1 positive to coil 2 negative, coil 1 negative to amp, coil 2 positive to amp. Hopefully that is easrier to understand. Check out JL Audio's tutorials for a nice diagram.
