My new system...UPDATED!

Now that I added a DVD player and rear speakers, I thought i'd show you my setup as it is now!

This is the main setup. My dvd player is on top of the VCR, as you can see:

The speaker wire I got from Audio Ark, which runs along the wall that my computer is on, to where my bed is. 14AWG:

My solution so that the speaker wires dont touch eachother. Tape:

The rear speakers:

My DVD player is connected via Coaxial. Wow. What a difference in sound from Prologic to Dolby Digital! There's no comparison!

I see that your system is coming along nicely. I think that your next concern should be your speakers. speaaking of them did you ever get the dust covers popped back out on them. I hope you enjoy your reciever. Happy Listening.:)

That is the way to start out. I bet that what you've got there would smoke most of our first setups. You did it all right. Congrats and enjoy. Just watch out for upgradeitis. It is lurking around every corner.

Nice setup, Cygnus. You are well on your way.

Don't forget to try and leave some ventilation for your new Denon. Put a couple of inches between your new receiver and the components above it. These Denons run hot, and need the air. Even 4 stacks of quarters (use your imagination) to raise it up an inch would benefit.

It will take you weeks to tweak it the way you like. You are officially an audioholic!

Congrats on the new receiver. Its always fun to get new toys.

Buck raises a point you might want to put some space on top to let the receiver breathe.

Enjoy !!!

The CD player is elevated quite a bit by itself. I might try to elevate it some more somehow. It's a very good receiver!

Congrats! Must be good to finally have the system come together! :)

Out of curiousity, what other amps did you consider before you settled on the 1705?

These:
Denon 1505
Denon 1905
Yamaha HTR-5740
Yamaha HTR-5760

The 1905, was too high priced, the 1505 didnt have bass management or video upconversion, the yamahas dissapeared from futureshop, long before i had enough cash to even think about buying a receiver.

Updated. I removed the broken CD changer, and I took more pics of the setup as it is now. Enjoy :)

That's coming around nicely Cygnus. When I was 15 my stereo was a 2-channel AKAI piece of crap receiver and an AKAI tape player that was only good for making enough noise to drive my parents crazy. I still have the Cerwin Vega AT-15's though. I just can't allow myself to get rid of them. Looks like your on your way to greatness.

Just noticed the Sony PC monitor. Great choice. Unreal sharpness and brightness. I almost sprung for the 19" model just out this year with a built in tv tuner, but for $599, I opted for the 20" Olevia LCD for $350. Doesn't hold a candle to the Sony, but it's fine for pc text and bedroom usage.

Those are some monster speakers you got there. No need for sub, eh?

Rush is right! :D

Yeah, the Sony monitor is nice, aside from the fact that it has a tiny dent in it...I do need to get a sub though, the speakers do put out a bit of bass, but not enough.

someone said you were only 15? thats a pretty nice start especially at 15. i didnt even think about receivers back then, i just had a mini aiwa system, with one audio input.. so i rigged it to my vcr wich had a few more video/audio inputs, which made some sort of a receiver i guess..

So do you have a dad or uncle or grandpa who has a kick @$$ system? Someone had to get you started somewhere. I was 13 and bought a pair of American Acoustic Labs 12" 3 way speakers for $118. 1983?? I hooked them up to a very very old 1970's Zenith console stereo system. Probably 15 watts per channel. They sounded absolutely terrible, but I knew it was the console. I had heard them at a sound show, as well as at the hifi store. For my 14th Bday, my father took me to get a receiver. $200 was my budget. I ended up getting one of the first LCD type stereo receivers from JVC. What a great year. Man were those speakers efficient. I couldn't get the volume past 2. Mom was so pi$$ed. The system grew with a Toshiba auto reverse dolby NR deck (yeah, not even B), a 10 band BSR eq (still works), a Pioneer turntable which I still have, and a Teac CD player, which I still have in the basement and working great. Here's a few pix (thanks to ebay-can't believe this crap is still out there!) of the birth of the sickness we call "audioholic."
