My new sub not being loud enough

Hi
I just received my 150 watt energy sub today and hooked it up with my 2 channel 50 watt onkyo receiver. I don't know if it is because of the break-in period or something, my sub can't get very loud. I put every volume knob in the middle volume position and could barely feel the sound from the sub. I also wonder if it is because my amplifier doesn't have enough power to drive it but it is a pretty new receiver and is usually pretty efficient without requiring much power output. Thanks for your answer in advance.

The break in period has nothing to do with loudness. Please tell us the model of your subwoofer and receiver and we will try to help.

Do you have it hooked up correctly?;)

Also, try to describe to us how you have it hooked up.

I had my sub hooked into the wrong output...it was SO refreshing when I finally figured it out and actually hooked it up to the LFE jack. :p

my reply

Here is my subwoofer model. Energy ESW-8. My receiver Onkyo TX-8255.

I stripped the speaker wire myself using a scissor. Obviously i couldn't do a perfect job on those wires and I did cut some strands but not a lot. Do the strands have to do with the loudness? Also I hooked the wires up with the speaker B terminal of my receivers and my subwoofer since my receive does not have a separate channel for subwoofer. Hope these information can help. Thanks.

Wire your sub to the same terminals as your mains (A). You will have to use your sub's volume control to adjust the loudness.
