my new sub completely changes my whole system's sound

bought a new sub tonight. Panasonic SB-W860.sounds great, but now my other speakers dont -.- im just using my ipod dock as my reciever now and so to get the bass out of the sub i have to turn up the volume and then that causes my other speakers to overwork themselves (i put on a bass and treble boost eq) with my weaker speakers im noticing 3/4" excursion and its sounds like crap because there not supposed to do that. so any temporary solutions?

I'm trying to get context from another thread, but I'm still not quite getting something: what, exactly, is powering your main speakers?

I'm guessing it's just a matter of the sub having a lot more power than your main speakers, and your main speakers are driven well into distortion to keep up with the sub.

ADDED BY EDIT: OK, now I'm not sure if this is a powered or pasive sub, so my comment may be completely off base.
