Hi,

I am doing this for my friend.

Budget: 500 Max. for the Home Theater. She doesn't need the rears right now.

So, here is the system I suggested to her.

Onkyo TX-SR304B HT Receiver: 149.99
Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Subwoofer: 116.00
Polk Audio RM6752 Center Channel Speaker: 72.00
Sony SS-F6000 Floor Standing 4-Way Speakers (PAIR): 178.00
(OR)
Sony SS-B3000 Book Shelf Speakers with 8" Woofer (PAIR): 87.00

So, based on the front speaker she chooses: The total is either around 515 dollars or 424 dollars.

Anybody in there suggest any changes or a different configurations within the price range?

Here's another possibility:

Pioneer 518 ($149)
Mirage Nanosats ($249 for Five at Vanns)
TSC ASW-8 Sub ($99)

I would suggest matching your center speaker to your left/right speakers, otherwise when sounds pan from left to right there will be a noticable difference when it moves from left to center and then to the right speaker. Also, compare reviews for the polk subwoofer and the Dayton Audio 10 inch sub, they are both about the same price, but many people regard the Dayton as the best budget subwoofer.

Depending on how much bass they like, the 12" version of that sub is $155. Don't forget to budget for shipping and speaker wire and cables. Many people forget those extras and run over budget.
