Well, just got my 1st Yamaha receiver yesterday. I bought a RX-V661 to replace a 7-y/o Sony POS. Kinda glad the center channel output died in that thing b/c this thing sounds great. I've read from alot of people saying they think Yamaha sounds harsh. From what I've experienced so far, I find it's quite the opposite. I guess different rooms, speakers, etc..... Anyway, this thing is great. It's going in my kids game room where I've got a 5.0 setup and there's an obvious difference in sound from the old Sony. This is way, way better. Thanks to Audioholics for helping me out.

The only thing that stinks is the Yamaha will last forever without issues; which is going to make it hard to convince the wife you ever need an upgrade.

AVRs/amps dont sound like anything; speakers and rooms do...

Well, I hope it lasts a long long time. The Yammy is for my kid's gameroom so they can watch movies & play video games. I'd much rather spend funds on my main listening room than on the kids anytime!!! I've got a Pioneer 72 for my living room. Unfortunately it is currently in the shop getting a firmware update. And yes, I am using the Yammy in the living room till the 72 comes back. The kids will have to live with TV speakers till then. I think they'll get over it when they get their Wii & tons of games for X-mas.
