If it is this company - http://www.lenoxxsound.com - then they specifically do not have any satement on their warranty page that disallows online transactions or purchases of their items. Both Yamaha & Denon are VERY specific on their website about what they cover.

I would send it in and include a copy of their own warranty policy. They have NO business publishing one thing, then making up rules on the fly.

Ok I emailed them and told them that and look at what the bastards told me.........Dear Customer :

Lenoxx Electronics along with DuraBrand are built for Wal-Mart only . The product is a Wal-Mart exclusive. It is not our responsibility to warranty any item sold off the internet. In fact we have the legal authority to pull products off Ebay. If you have any questions, you may call us at 1-800-315-5885.

Wal-Mart exclusive brand huh? I guess you should return it to Wal-Mart then...

It is their 'exclusive' product after all, no question where you got it from. ;)

Or buy a new one from Wal-Mart - return the bad one in the original box w/receipt. You should not be a victim of their poor product control and lack of information.

In all seriousness, you're going to spend nearly what the player is worth in shipping it back in for warranty service. I can understand that you're upset about the warranty support.

Personally, I'd just buy a new player. Best Buy has an excellent Magnavox for $29 (after $10 rebate) that sounds and plays very well.

Wal-Mart will take anything back, even without a receipt, as long as they have sold it at some time in the past. Without receipt you'll get a store credit. They have very good inventory control and thier computers know what products are theirs.

Examples:
1) A radiator flush kit I never used, found 3 years later when I moved, and returned. Actually got more back as the price had gone up.

2) A tube of caulk, I was told that they did not sell that item to me. I had been doing some home repairs and had been buying stuff at Lowe's and Wal*Mart. I know walmart carried the same caulk, and I had no intent to defraud, I just thought I bought it at WM.

So...Try to return it, the worse that can happen is they'll say no. If they ask any questions tell them that you got it as a gift and the gift giver said they got it at WM.

Yeah, any product they sold in the past will be in their files. I'd think they could fix it, or far more likely, give you a store credit. Normally I wouldn't consider buying online and presenting the product to a B&M dealer for service, but this may be a unique case- if WalMart is the only authorized dealer, you may have to. However, don't be surprised if it originally sold for $49 at WM. You probably overpaid for the item.

This should serve as a warning to all prospective Ebay shoppers. You really do have to do some research before buying. "Lennox"? I've never heard of them before. You're wise to stick to established brands from reputable manufactureres, and it's a good idea to check with the warrenty info in advance.

Ebay has some good deals, but it's notoriously cluttered with junk from drop shippers and people trying to unload their crap on the unwary. If you check right now, you'll probably find a dozen guys trying to sell their drop-shipped Coby portables for $120. WalMart sold thousands of the exact same model for $60. Those sellers are just praying that the bidder doesn't know about electronics and didn't do their homework.

The long and the short- try WalMart first. If they won't fix it or give you credit, you'll just have to chalk it up to experience and learn from it. Unless you just financially aren't able to buy a new machine, rest assured that you can get a really decent one for $50 or less. You can get an excellent theater DVD player for $125 at a B&M dealer and get good warrenty service. Crutchfield is a solid & reliable online vendor with superb customer support.

Best of luck to you.

In that case, you're probably better off just buying a new one. I'd wager getting it fixed would cost more than it's worth. That sucks about your local WallyWorld- that's not how they generally do stuff here.

As far as for them requiring a receipt, there's at least three good reasons I can think of for them to want to see that.

1) You say it's a Lennox brand but that Wal Mrt link shows a Regent brand.

2) They need to know that the unt being returned was actually purchased it from them and initially didn't simply walk out of the store.

3) You say the unit hasn't been sold in 1 - 2 years. If it's that old then chances are the warranty is out of effect.
