I'm a college student who must leave his main equipment at home for far too many months of the year. This is the good stuff. At school, I have some older, cheaper equipment since I figure it'll get abused more often.
The speakers:
It's a DIY 2-way design using the Peerless 850122 and the Vifa XT19. It's a 2nd order linkwitz-rielley crossover at 3000Hz. I originally had a 4th order in there, but had to rebuild them. The 4th order I think did a slightly better job, but the 2nd is still really quite good. The boxes are sealed with 3/4" MDF all around with 1 internal cross brace. The finish is a gloss-black baffle, red oak veneer on the sides (which is stained a combo of cherry and red mahogany), and flat black rear. There are a few spots that just need slight touchup paint, but I let them go for later so I could actually use them at the end of break.
The furniture:
I also designed and built the stands and the racks and tv stand. In the stands, MDF is used for the shelf and base, red oak stained the same color as the speaker veneer for the "legs", and there's 1 PVC pipe filled with sand to add weight and 1 empty one for cable organization.
The rack and tv stand use MDF for the shelves, 3/8" all thread rods for the shelf legs, and cedar for the TV stand legs (stained cherry to closely match the red oak staining). The shelves are cut at an angle so reaching behind to mess with cables is easy.
