What music do you listen when you are about to sleep? To start, I like soft jazzy like music. My selections are:
1. Eric Chiryoku-Winter Story Album
2. Keiko Matsui
3. Josh Groban
4. Andrea Bocelli
5. Smooth Jazz-Love Songs

As much as I love the album, I have had many good naps listening to Dave Brubeck's Time Out.

For some sooth jazzy stuff, check out some albums by the Rippingtons.

Clapton unplugged using Senns HD580s. Don't know why headphones work better than speakers, but they do.

It's very simple really, with headphones there are no room interactions. No standing waves, no nulls, no peaks, no reflections and no coloration from speaker boxes.

I'll certainly check out Rippingtons...Eric Clapton's unplugged has been my fav for a long time (never tried it for nap music). Eric Chiryoku is very good IMHO. It's instrumental though. Here's the link: http://www.ericchiryoku.com/music.html

An old girlfriend used to listen to George Winston. Not bad music. Very relaxing. Puts me right to sleep.:)

Ocean Surf

When I *REALLY* want to sleep, I play "Ocean Surf" from my Squeezebox (via Squeezenetwork "Natural Sounds")... so soothing, and drowns out ALL background noises. I think it induces healthy deep REM sleep, as I wake up SO refreshed, even after a 30 min nap!

Question: If i have an MP3 file and i convert it to a .wav file. Does it make it sounds better, or the same, or even worse? Anybody?

For sleep

relaxing music

First, I so agree on Keiko Matsui, she is very tranquil.

I also like Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Miles Davis and Diana Krall. All mostly mellow relaxing stuff. I can't sleep with headphones myself, becuase I lay on my side, and they interfere with my head on the pillow!

Go to sleep...

This one's right up my alley; some of my favorite artists to relax:

1) Fourplay (checkout one of my reviews in the CD area)
2) John Klemmer (same as above)
3) Yellowjackets (same as above, plus more to come)
4) Earl Klugh AND (especially) Bob James & Earl Klugh

I also have a "custom" CD of slow tunes I listen to occasionally, but it's mostly old stuff (70's) I don't listen to as much because I don't have it on CD (I digitized most of it from albums).

And now for something completely different: if you have the (old) Apollo 13 DVD, it's nice to listen to the soundtrack that plays (for an hour) on the menu screen.

There is no possible way that you can gain the parts of the signal that were lost when compressing to MP3, so there is no gain in sound quality.

As far as music to fall asleep too, I've always been a huge fan of Beethoven's 6th symphony (Pastoral).

1. turn off light
2. play Phillip Glass's Glassworks
3. if still awake move onto The Hours soundtrack

You'll be in a coma in no-time. (Glass's work must have subliminal messages. I think he writes a piece and then plays it over an intercom while he robs banks or something. He's like a Batman villain), I kid! I kid!:p

Masak_aer....I've just discovered Celtic Woman. It comes in DD 5.1 dvd or cd form. GET IT! It's as beautiful and relaxing as any music I've ever heard. It's available for ~12 bucks for the cd on ebay ($75 if you buy from PBS). Basically, 5 Irish angels play and sing wonderful new and a bit of traditional Celtic music. Even if you don't like traditional Celtic stuff, this will thrill you...very etherial. A full orchestra and chorus backs up these lovely lassies.

JUST BUY IT...and I recommend the DVD because these ladies are really wonderful to watch. ;) You'll thank me. You'll drift away on wonderfully flights of relaxation. Only a couple of tracks are 'upbeat' enough to stir you from your quiet enjoyment. (The only problem with using for sleep might be the ovations from the audience, as it's recorded live in Ireland. But it's not overwhelming noise.) And give a copy to your cousin!
