Music CDs on a 7.1 system

I'm putting a 7.1 system in the great room of my house. The rear speakers will actually be in the kitchen, a good 20 feet behind the TV (definitely not ideal). Before I wire the system I want to be sure that when I'm playing a regular music CD on the system that sound will come out of both the rear speakers and front L/R speakers (that way music will be in the kitchen and living area). I've never had a surround system so I have no idea what happens when music CDs are played. Are music CDs just played over the front L/R speakers? THanks.

That depends. Normally the music will be played over the front speakers and possibly the subwoofer (depending on your settings). However, you can enable a DSP mode like 7 channel stereo to play music on all of the speakers and pipe sound into the kitchen area.

If your receiver has two or more zones, you can have music in the kitchen, while something else plays in the great room.
Good luck!
