multi-channel problems

I just purchased the Panasonic DMP-BD55K Blu-Ray player, and I love it.
However, since I don't have a newer reciever, I had to use the 5.1 analogue outputs on the BD and connect them to the multi-channel inputs on the receiver. When playing a movie......the audio is great with deep rich bass. When I play a music CD, I get no base at all. My setup seems right (speaker setup, etc..)
This BD does not have any bass management, however my receiver does. I have tried everything, and still no bass.
Have I missed something?

Almost no receivers have bass management on the multichannel inputs and since CDs are stereo only there is no information passed to the LFE channel. Hook up a digital connection (or if the player has separate 2ch analog outs use those) to the receiver on a different input such as CD and that should let CDs play with the receiver's bass management.

The optical(toslink) or digital coax connection is the best option.

You may find you prefer it over the 5.1 analog for BR as well, due to the fact you are bypassing any bm/calibration set by your receiver while using m/c inputs.

Thanks to J Garcia and Zumbo for the reply.
I thought I knew a lot about connectivity and I cannot believe that I never thought about sending the audio from a music CD to another input on my receiver. DUH!! Thanks!

I have a question for Zumbo. Why would I want to use an optical cable as a substitute for the multi - channel inputs/outputs as the optical cable does not carry the hi-rez audio formats?
