Just getting started with my HT, so trying to figure somethings out.
I have a new DVD player which has optical out, which I'm using and
to run to a sony receiver. Both have the Multi-Channel connections.
Now would I use the multi channel out on the dvd for DTS and DD- DVD's,
ok well whats the M.C i/out for and I think I read somewhere it was for non-incoded music disks??
I'm confused!

you multi-channel out is most likely for SACD or DVD-audio music output. you would want to use optical for the HT part. :)

Leprkon is right.

Note however, that you could use the 5.1 analog outs if you wanted to experiment. You would have to set the dvd player to PCM (instead of bitstream). Then the player would do the decoding and send the 5.1 analog signals to the receiver. It's not likely that the player will do a better job of decoding than the receiver (which is why you should use the optical connection) but it's there to try if you feel like it.

I tried it out and Anon is right, the receiver does a better job!
