Multi Channel Input ?

Do I need to set up Multi Channel input as well as the 5 speakers I already have connected to the Yamaha 1400 for 5.1 and to play SACD's ?
Seems redundant, why is this necessary if I have 5 channels already (L,R, C, SR
& SL) ?

Thanks, Dave

SACD is not the same as multi channel Dolby Digital or DTS, which your receiver CAN decode. Your Yammie won't decode SACD. That's done in the SACD player and fed, in 5.1 analog format, to your Yammie.

Don't feel too miffed, though. I can't think of ANY receiver that can decode SACD or DVA-Audio.

Some can but they're not cheap.
Well, I guess my bottom feeder tendencies gave me away here.

Seriously, This is good news. Which ones decode SACD, and DVD-Audio?

This means that in a year or so the trickle down process will commence. It works a lot better in audio than it ever did in economics. Automatic room equalization is already following that path.

I just might hold off buying a new source item for a year or so...

The way the question is worded, it sounds like you're thinking of connecting speakers to the multi-channel inputs.........? They aren't inputs for speakers.
