No pics yet, but I have finally finished putting together my theater/music room. Hope to have picture early next as this weekend is ridiculously busy.

Nice setup. Glad to see that you finally got some pictures posted. My only advice would be to throw some curtains on that window.

Yeah, the wife and I are in the process of picking out some curtains right now. We are tired of not being able to watch TV in this room in the morning! Thanks for the feedback.

Nice equipment and I really like the furniture too! Lots of room for the speakers even thought it is not a large space.

Well done!!!
Thank you! Coming from you I take that as a huge compliment! I've been building this setup for about 3.5 years now, bargain shopping as best I can and picking up great equipment as it bottoms out in price (working at BB doesn't hurt either). Funny thing about this room, it's actually the master bedroom in a 2 bedroom floorplan. It's only 13x18. This kind of worked out to our advantage, sonically, though since I didn't have to invest in a huge sub to fill the space. It took us nearly 9 months and 5 different configurations to get the feel/space we really wanted in this area. I'm thinking my next acquisitions are going to be curtains (cheap is good since this is a rental) and maybe another audio tower for my BD/PS3 games/DVD binders and moving the sub between the seats. At less than $100 from Art Van, I can't go wrong I think. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

Hey mudrummer99 your setup looks great. Great work putting a nice system together that looks and sounds great. It also sounds like you've got WAF approval which is a huge bonus.

Yeah, I redid this whole room while she was at work one day and she came home and was like "Wow, I had no idea it would look like this!" That definitely makes life easier, both to live with and to acquire more upgrades in the future, especially since she trusts what I will do now.

I have always been impressed with Martin Logan subwoofers. Every one I have heard seemed to outperform its size. As far a placement of your sub, I would suggest some testing. Sub placement is one of the most critical things to good sound in the room. Get an SPL meter from Radio Shack and a audio test disc (I just used the tracks that came on my Digital Video Essentials calibration disc) and map out the dB level across its entire range at the primary listening position. If you have some dips in the curve, move the sub around to try to flatten them. This takes a lot of testing and moving and back again but is well worth the extra effort. There are some good articles on calibration on this site. If you want to learn more and get a good starting point, here is a link to another site. Look under white papers.

Harman International White Papers

At first, this info may be a little daunting to some but if you take some time to read through them a few times and so some side research, you may find this to be a very rewarding effort to emulate.

Good Luck and let us know how everything works out.

+1 for curtains. Can save on energy costs too. If your wife can sew, get some black out lining to go with the curtains.

I played around with levels and sweeps a bit when I was choosing where to put it, but only by ear. Unfortunately, I still live in a condo so I have the sub turned way down. I have really tried to get it to respond as though it is just an extension to the mains. Listening to music (which I rarely do on this system) is really nice. With the ML sub, I get a great range on orchestral tracks as well as piano men (Elton John, etc.).

As far as curtains, the wife REALLY can't sew, but I can. I have gone back and forth between making our own (giving me a reason to buy a sewing machine) and just buying some off the shelf. I'll that decision in the next couple weeks and see where I go with it. Again, thanks everyone for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately I live in a townhouse, so no drum kit til we buy a real house. But someday...someday, but I do have a nice practice pad over in the corner ;)
