MTV Cribs - AA Style!

I saw a similar thread at another site and thought I would start one here with pictures of my home theater setup in my living room. Right now, I don't have a dedicated HT room. The living room opens in the back to the dining room. I put a curtain to separate the rooms and give the living room more sense of closure while watching movies. I actually think the open back help reduce audio echoes though I would much rather have an enclosed room.

As you can see I have a 5.1 with the rear surrounds to the left and right of the sofa about 6 feet high. The room is about 12’ wide and 16’ long. I have some acoustic panels on the walls which likely are not where they should be (ongoing debate with the wifey).

Post your pictures and/or let me know of an advice for a better setup.

Drell,

Looks good! I think that most of us here don't have dedicated HT rooms, but rather have our gear in the living room or such. I like the idea of putting up the curtain between the rooms in your place. Nice touch.

What gear do you have? I think that I can make out some of it, but a list would be nice. Thanks!

Thanks. I just found this section of the forum. My link went to the HT Hardware Hangout only for some reason. It’s interesting seeing the other system setups. I can’t wait until we buy a house!

Klipsch RC-52 Center
Klipsch RF-52 Front L/R
Klipsch RS-42 Surrounds
Def Tech ProSub 800
Sony Bravia 50" LCD (1080p)
Yamaha RX-V1600
Playstation 3 (Video via HDMI to TV & audio via optical to AVR which does not pass 1080p)
Xbox 360 (with HD-DVD) (Video via HDMI to TV & audio via optical to AVR which does not pass 1080p)
DirecTv HD Receiver (To TV via HDMI to audio to AVR via optical)
Panamax Power Conditioner
HDMI 2-1 Switcher (since TV only has two HDMI's)

I am looking to upgrade my sub soon and also go to 7.1 from 5.1. Any thoughts on a good sub or rear surrounds to match?

Great setup!! Do you ever leave it?!

I'd get matching Klipsch to add the channels if you have been happy with that brand.

For a subwoofer, there are a lot of options. Take some time to browse the subwoofers forum and see if something catches your eye, and then make a post in that forum with any questions you have and we can recommend. I personally like Dynaudio (www.dynaudio.com) and Bag End (www.bagend.com), but there are many options depending on your budget. Lots of people recommend SVS here (www.svsound.com). Take a look at what some other people decided on, it makes for some interesting reading.

You said "you can't wait to buy a house" ... is that an apartment? If so, you might want to be careful with buying some of the subwoofers we recommend because they will piss off your neighbors. ;)

Cheers!

I more than likely will stay with the Klipsch for the rear surrounds. I do live in a two flat. The folks upstairs don't care and the folks downstairs turnover so much I don't care. :D

Hopefully I will be out of here in a year anyway. I will look into the brands recommended.

Here is a picyure of my living room HT. I hope to get a dedicated room within a year or so.

Yours is looking good!

It is actually three pieces (a TV stand and two audio piers closely arranged together that I got from Target. It is their Uptown series in espresso color per the links below. Total cost is was about $420.00 plus taxes. Not a bad deal. To hold the center channel speaker, I made a stand with a shelf for that allows it to rest just above TV iwhtou leaning on the TV. It is fairly well hidden from view unless you really look at it – you can see the bottom of it under the TV if you look closely.
