Watched this today and I was VERY pleasantly surprised. I can't even remember what made me rent it, but I thought it was great. I'm not even a Kevin Costner fan, (I'll never forgive him for Waterworld), but he did a great job. William Hurt was also fantastic. Demi Moore was good as a driven cop with her own issues. About the only fault I had with the film was Dane Cook. I can't stand that guy!!! He's not funny. He's just annoying as hell. How does he keep getting acting jobs?!? Also, gun shots in the movie were very exaggerated and loud. Sounded cool on the home theater though.

Anyway, Costner plays a wealthy businessman, philantropist that has this one little quirk. Seems he's addicted to killing people. William Hurt plays his alter ego that pushes him to commit murder.

Definitely rent this one!!!

I rented the DVD months ago but still am awed by those gun shots. I think they were meant to reflect the impact the victim would feel as Mr. Brooks used a silencer. I thought the exagerated sound mostly came out of the sub and now that I recently got a 2nd sub and a nicer TV I just may get it again.

We are in disagreement on Water World. I might buy that one.

Brooks was a great movie. It's one of the few that hasn't dissappointed me in the past years. I think that's a definate buy. I'm waiting for some of the blu-ray to shake out stil before I pick up a player. Once I do, I'l start buying some of the movies I want. I've put off buying movies for awhile, but Mr. Brooks is on the list.

Yeah, this was an earlier buy of mine, never having seen it before. The reviews were quite good overall in terms of content as well as PQ, so I pulled the trigger. I was, of course, a bit hesitant with the Costner/Moore combo, but it was a decent watch. Have yet to re-watch it.

A different role for Costner, that's for sure.

Here's a thought that I had when I was watching it: I kinda took William Hurt to be Costner's dad in the movie. Any takers?
