movies more demanding for speakers with no sub?

I've noticed that if I listen to music with speakers alone(acoustech ht-75), they can handle bass without any ill effect. When I try to pipe LFE through the mains in a movie, there seems to be not enough excursion in the 6.5" woofers. Is this because movies are more dynamic? I understand that I will never get the bass out of 6.5" woofers because of the size factor...but why do movies cause such a fuss with speakers?

I would think it would be the harmonics difference between noise and music.

It's because the LFEs which your speakers are trying to reproduce are lower than they are capable of. These frequencies are usually much lower than what you will find in music.

As Nick stated and the LFE can be at a much higher volume. 6.5" is not a sub.
Actually, you need to try music with a real sub. At least 1 CD in the Telarc line has a 48" drum in it, an older recording. Then, you have that 1812 with real cannons and at very high levels. Frequency has been measure down to 5 Hz!

If you are talking about volume levels, yes. Movies are more dynamic. At the same volume level, your average CD or TV feed today is much more compressed than movies, and so its a lot louder. I have to turn it up alot generally for DVDs.
