moved Jamos to living room

I had gotten a pair of Jamo C605s for my bedroom system. They were really too big for it so I moved them to my living room. It's been a huge improvement for my home theater system.

I tried some two channel music first. They image better than the monitors I had, give a much bigger sound stage and are way more accurate.

I still need to try out some symphonic music. The C605s don't seem to be braced terribly well but so far I haven't noticed any effect on the sound.

I just watched MI2 on BD. They definitely work for home theater.

After that I put on some music and switched my receiver to pure direct mode. That turns off all extra processing and the subwoofer. I'm not missing the sub. The Jamos have pretty respectable extension for 2.5 way speakers with 6" mid/woofers.

I played a few cuts off Sade's best of, a few cuts off Abbey Road and now I'm listening to the Reiner Scheherezade. Everything sounds really good. I suspect that if these speakers were braced a little better, it would be tough to justify spending more than the $450 I paid for the pair.

While the C605s have a respectable extension, I found their limitations. I put on Losfer Words from Iron Maiden's Powerslave album. Turning the subwoofer back on gave the bass more authority. It was kind of thin in pure direct mode.

The classical stuff I listened to sounded surprisingly good without a sub.

The Jamo C607 .......for just $200.00 more are far superior with low bass extension. You'd be surprised how they can go.

Glad to see you're enjoying your C605, though!!!

Thanks for the info. My room is not too big and I sit about 2 meters from each speaker. That's why I didn't go with the 607s. For most music the bass is adequate. The limitation seems to be for recordings that have a lot of low frequency energy, especially if it is sustained. It can cover all the bass guitar notes pretty well.

It's possible that in that situation I'm not feeding them enough power. I don't know. I wouldn't expect my Marantz to run out of gas on two channel music.
