Mounting height for Center Channel

I have a 42" plasma which is 50" high. I need to mount my center speaker on the wall and I will probably have to angle it down slightly. So my question is do I mount it at 52". I don't have a protractor to see if the angle of the speakers would send the sound into the plasma. Is there a general rule of thumb to follow?

The bottom of your screen should be 2.5 ft from the floor. I would mount your center channel above the screen and angle it to the listening position.

Draw it out. Protractors are cheap and readily available. You could work it out with trig. also.

How far more does the plasma sticks out from the speakers grill?
You may want a few more inches.

Before you drill any holes, take your speaker mount and attach it to the speaker. Then hold them against the wall to see how high you need to mount them and mark that spot. If you need help, have someone else hold it and you can sit on the couch to see how it looks. Then take the mount off the speaker, drill holes, attach mount to proper spot, add speaker to mount, aim and your done.

The tv is 10" from the wall, I can't place it any closer with the tv stand. I have a diagram of the speaker taped on the wall and keep moving it. I want to put a shelf above the speaker to hold things that were on my old entertainment center. Do you have any idea how much room I should leave so I don't affect the sound from the speaker?

Make sure that the the full width of the shelf is behind the front of the speaker. Then I would place the shelf around a wavelength at 500 Hz above the speaker, which is around 2ft.

Center channel

Try a laser pointer or laser level to "aim" the center channel at the listening position. I should point at your ear level in the main listening position.

Well I am going to plan B. I got the speaker mounts B-Tech 33 and when I opened the package, assembled then I chickened out. My center speaker is from the Polk RM7500 satellite series. The bracket just looked too small and weak to support the 10 lb. weight so I am going to put up a 2'L X2" X10"w shelf which is 2.5" longer than the speaker. That way I can mount at the TV height and enough room to angle it down if necessary.

Easy Way - Get a friend an a piece of string. Us a protractor if you want, but even that is not necessary.

Setup TV have friend sit in the optimum listening position you will occupy. You hold one end of the string and center speaker and the friend hold the other end of the string at ear level while seat in the optimum listing position. And whoa-la you have the correct center speaker position and angle. For posterity you can measure the angle but my SWAG is 18-20 degrees below horizontal.

Just out of curiousity since I don't think anyone else has addressed it, but is it at all possible that another location may be used?

thaedium if you are addressing it me I don't have room on my tv stand. I have 2 shelves and they hold my denon 2808 receiver, 200 disk cd changer, dish receiver and dvd player. I have always understood that the center speaker needs to be as close to the tv for best results. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Because I am very limited choices for putting my TV, I have 44" of width to work with. I know it really sticks, My living room is 11'X21' and I have a piano and marine fish tank to contend with.
