Mounting bookshelf speakers on LCD arm mounts ?

Hi all !

I have a pair of bookshelf speakers (Dali Blue 2002 each weighs around 20 lb) which I would like to mount on both sides of my LCD TV in the bedroom above the built in closet. I need to mount close to the ceiling and point them a little down on the angle).

I already have two unused LCD arm mounts and I wanted to utilize them for this purpose - as additional benefits it can also give me a lot of freedom, since each arm has 3 pivot points and can extend as far as 18" from the wall, rotate and tilt. They can hold more then 40 lb, so its safe. That way I can place them far from wall not be too boomy.

My question is - in term of sound quality - is it OK that speaker sort of "suspended" in the air and not attached rigidly to the wall ?

I am not an audiophile, but just curious if such a "soft" mounting can degrade sound vs more "rigid" attachment (directly to the wall or very short arm with no pivot points). I actually saw some mounts (Allen Mount system where speakers are suspended on cables, which is even "softer" then arm with multiple pivot point.

What's your opinion ?

I thought that the wholepoint of spikes on floorstanding speakers is to avoid speaker movements, so same thing should apply to bookshelf - is it correct ?

Thanks in advance

Its good idea to keep speakers that weren't designed to be near/on walls away from the walls

Looking at theses speakers, it looks like they were meant to go on stands away from the wall. As long as mounting them on the brackets you suggested gets you off the wall by a couple of inches you should be fine.

Oh one thing you need to know, pulling the speaker out to the full length provided by the arm of your LCD bracket will put a lot of force on the mounting area where the bracket is attached to the wall. Read up on how much weight, these LCD brackets can support. You need to be very careful here.

If these brackets don't work out for you, try these;

Thanks for your reply

Hi 3db !

Thanks for your reply. I certainly aware about pressure on wall connection. It will be mounted on a metal stud which currently supports with no problems much higher load (LCD TV), so I don't see problems there. Regarding the mounts you advised I considered them but I couldn't use them due to some geometrical limitations.

My question was if I should expect any sound degradation because of connection to the wall is not rigid. Let's say, I decide suspend them from ceiling on a metal cable, would it be ok for sound quality.

How important is speaker RIGID attachments in general (to floor with spikes or to wall with mount) for sound quality.

I'm sure they will work just fine, in fact probably be the best scenario bar none..

You are removing at solid connection to avoid any transmission of vibration.
