Mounting a fan inside the receiver.

I have a Sony STR-DA2400ES and as my previous Sony receiver did, it got really hot to the touch. I mounted a fan inside the receiver attached to the top grill to suck the hot air out. It works wonders. But what scares me is having something in there that isn't supposed to be? am I doing more harm than good? What are the potential problems I could run into?

As long as it's properly secured you are fine.

It is, thanks, it is always nice to get advice from someone that knows a ton about the subject since my knowledge is limited. I actually fished black cable ties through the screw holes on the fan then looped them through the vents on the receiver. This way it is secure without damaging the casing and you don't have that look of a fan on top of the receiver which I hate.

It's perfectly fine. Actually it is often better that we finished the unfinished job by the manufacturers. And it applies to many aspects of their build quality, and for money savings reasons.

So, I often custom made the components that I purchased, by adding better parts, wiring, lights, etc.

A fan inside at the right spot is a great idea.
