Most awesome fireworks display you've seen

Since we often talk about displays here, I wonder what the best display of fireworks everyone has personally seen? I watched many of the displays in the NY harbor and such during the US' centennial celebration and they were awesome, sure enough...but I watched on TV, so they don't count!

I would have to say for me, that the mother of all fireworks displays I watched was in Louisville, KY. It was during derby week and is called "Thunder Over Louisville". They put barges full out in the river, close the bridges and load them up, set up all along the banks and have at it for about 45 minutes! It was absolutely unreal. Fireworks were coming from seemingly everywhere! Those big boomers seemed to make jelly out of my innards after so many. Talk about LFE:eek:

TOL has become my benchmark for fireworks and has never even been close to being surpassed by anything else I've seen.

So how about it, folks? Tell us about yours!

Same thing happened during a show when I was a kid. In a suburb of Cleveland Ohio. I was about 10. My Mom took the blanket we were all sitting on and covered my brothers and I. A few people were burned but not seriously. scary stuff!

The best show I have ever seen was in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bardges...bridges...music...It was awesome!

IMO nothing comes close to the fireworks of Disney and Epcot. Best of all they do this 365 days / year !

Yes, very true!
This May, I brought my parents to Disney for their 50th wedding anniversary. (their choice)
Despite the fact they have fireworks each night.
They did have tests, or practice runs, for a few nights, while we were there.
That explains why the show is so good, night after night.

You & me both Dukester. I haven't seen anything come close to what they do here every year in April (2 weeks before Derby which is the first weekend in May). What they will do tonight (July 4th) will be nice, but nothing like what they do for Thunder. I've been to Washington DC for the fireworks on July 4th & in Boston where they have the big fireworks display with the Boston Pops, and neither came remotely close to Thunder. TOL is the largest annual show in the USA with almost 60 tons of fireworks over 28 minutes, almost twice what was done in DC for the US's 200th anniversary (33 tons). You've just got to see it to believe it. Disney (Florida) fireworks are great, especially since they are every night, but it wasn't the scale of Thunder when I was there last. I'd strongly suggest anybody really into fireworks to make the trip to Louisville sometime for Thunder. The airshow before the fireworks goes all day, and the Blue Angles were here this year too. The airshow itself was pretty awesome. If anybody is ever here, let me know. I'll show you around the city or help you plan your trip.

Washington, DC

Laying under the Washington monument, watching the fireworks go up behind it. A near out of body experience. :D
