Noob here, with a noob question.

I did a search for "morel" on the site, and found several discussions about DIY speakers, but I didn't see anyone talking about having purchased fully built speakers or subs from Morel.

Then I found this on Amazon (I know, not where one goes to find fine sound, but I saw them there just the same):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/002-0659630-9681619?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=electronics-aps&field-brandtextbin=Morel Loudspeakers

Anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks!:D

Never seen any speakers by Morel, so that's weird. I've only ever seen drivers from them. Based on the quality of their drivers, I'd expect most of those to be decent. They look a lot like the Anthony Gallos though.

Indeed.

I'm basically trying to find what I think is the perfect combination of aesthetics, value, and quality.

The aesthetic/quality part seems to be either the Orbs, the Gallos, or the Morels - I just need to find the best deal, I guess.

Unless anyone wants to talk me out of one of these lines...

:)

Until the other week, there have been two lines of speakers with the name Morel.

The original Morel is an Israeli company. They make very good tweeters and woofers that are well known to DIY builders. They also sell a line of finished speakers. http://www.morelhifi.com/

There was also a company located in Boston, once called Morel Accoustics USA. They DO NOT sell the same products.

There has been a long legal battle between them over the use of the name. The result is that the Israeli company keeps the name Morel and the company formerly known as Morel Accoustics USA is now called Renaissance Audio Group http://www.renaudio.com/ . I cannot tell you anything, good or bad, about their products, except that they are not Morels.

Before you buy anything, check out those websites and be sure of what you are getting.

Thanks, Swerd, I'll look into it.

Meanwhile...has anybody out there tried these speakers Amazon is selling?

They're terribly attractive, but of course, that means nothing if they don't sound any good! :p

Just checked, and the speakers at Amazon ARE made by the Israeli Morel company (now the only Morel company, I guess). Of course, it's risky to buy speakers without hearing them first, so if anyone out there knows anything about these babies, please let me know.... Thanks!

Articles Found

Found a couple of reviews on these, if anyone else is curious. The bottom line seems to be favorable, though not genius. That's fine with me, as the room we'll be putting them in is sadly not up to ideal specs for surround sound anyway (some day we'll get that room that is explicitly for tv watching....).

Anyway here's the scoop:
