Im in the market for a new receiver - I am looking for HDMI 1.1. My TV is a JVC HD-ILA .

1) Looking at switching - should i look at one that is 1080i or 1080p capable HDMI switching?

2)Will i be able to run HDMI though my Dish HD942 box with out any problems?

3)Is an Integra receiver an upgrade to an Onkyo or are they basicly the same unit? I havent been able to find much on the Integra, but the one I listened to yesterday sounded nice.

The receivers im looking at-
Onkyo SR674
Yamaha HTR-5990
Denon AVR 3806
Onkyo SR804

Any other recommendations? Ruling out the Elites unless they get there LFE/HDMI Firmware Update problems solved.

This is all new to me, and the reseach can get a little extensive.

Thanks for you help.

Receiver options

TxScott,
You list some good receiver options.
The Yamaha RX-V2700 is more comparable in price and performance to the Denon 3806 and the Yamaha includes video upscaling with an ABT chip.
If these $1500 receivers are in your price range, you might consider waiting until mid year to upgrade with the new models will be released with HDMI 1.3

In a lower price range, the Pioneer 1016 includes an HDMI switch for $400 but it doesn't processes an audio over HDMI. If you have an issue with your Dish box, it is likely an issue with Dish and not with the receiver.

I'm going to pull the trigger on the Yamaha htr-5990 myself. I found it for $650 if you were thinking it was more. Yamaha says it upconverts the video via HDMI and component, but I intend to input 1080p signals and just use it as a switcher. I can't find a better price on a THX certified, 140W/c anywhere. Still, I just have to cross my fingers and hope that my cable box and this unit will be compatible.

There isn't much difference between the Onkyo TX-SR604 and the 674 other than upscaling and a slight increase in power, but not enough power to be noticable. The 604 is considerable less than the 674, I believe the 604 goes for around $350-400 on the internet.

The Integra line checks all the parts to make sure they meet their specs. If it does not pass they use it in a regular Onkyo, that doesn't mean that Onkyo gets bad parts all the time, just increased likelyhood of possible problems in the future. This is based on what I have heard, I have not researched this deeply so I may be wrong.
