While those Yammies undoubtedly provide a ton of bang for buck, the price will be very comparable, in fact most likely even more expensive, if you needed 5-7 channels. At least compared to entry/mid Rotels, NADs, used Outlaws, etc. These other brands may not provide quite as much power, but there is something to be said for the convenience of not needing to find space, hide ugliness, use more outlets, having one chassis.

Even if I was more familiar with these pro units before I bought my NAD amp, I probably would've made the same decision anyways. I needed 7 channels of amp at the time to hook up to my pre/pro, HT was in the living room, and I was looking for 2 ohm stable amps. Im sure the Yam could handle 2 ohms fine... but y'all get my point.

If I was looking for a 2ch amp only, it would be a tougher decision. If I could actually hide them, the decision would be easier.

Josten, don't let me cause you to worry about your decisions. I just have this passionate campaign going trying to correct some of the misconceptions that run rampant in consumer audio.

I really do think the pro audio amps represent a better value (and a better product) but it isn't really a very big deal. Mostly I just get insensed when audiophiles look down their noses at them as inferior products. Most of the consumer audio products are excellent, as you know, and almost all of the few non-linear amplifiers that are available are from the high end of the consumer audio business. I tend to look down my nose at those as poor performers. But truthfully, power amplifiers in the consumer audio business really are very linear and reliable.

Power amps don't really have much impact on the sonics of a home based audio system anyway so most of it is just academic jawboning on my part and my passion for setting the record straight.

Incidentally I went back to taking guitar lessons again this year. I'm working with a retired studio musician who used to work for Motown records and also worked in the travelling bands of many of the famous Motown acts of the 70's. He's very good a good teacher as well as being an outstanding performer. He's teaching me jazz guitar. It is going slowly but steadily.

fmw, thanks for your kind explanation, and that's really cool you are jumping into that stuff. I just fiddled around again yesterday with my cellist friend myself...

Midnight... I do use a modular rack... but not a pro rack... and TBH, those pro amps aren't the type where I would necessarily want them out for display, but I can absolutely see the appeal for many others. Thanks.
