More focused question - denon 5308 0r 4810?

Let's just not worry about price. I think either of these will be in my rack for 4-8 years. I'm not likely a guy who is going to buy and then just sell to upgrade. Could happen, but history suggests against it.

I'm currently running a 5.1 system and may upgrade to 7.1 sometime soon. I can say that adding height channels in the front is intriguing, but not something I'm committed to.

I have periods where I listen at very high levels, and I think both of these units would serve that purpose. My front 3 are Accoustic Energy Aelites (aelite 3 and center) and the rears are Boston VRM-50's.

I'm not sure what else I need to include to make this a better question, but will provide any info on request.

Thanks in advance.

If price is no object and you want to go for quality and power output then 5308 is the better unit. From practical stand point the 4810 is more up to date in terms of features. You can't go wrong with either, unless you prefer separates.

Regarding separates, I have seen that Denon is coming out with a more moderate pairing of separates that I'm very curios about. I'm not likely to get into onkyo or emotiva.

I was looking seriously at the NAD Master Series for a while, but felt that it was too far along to settle for 1.1 HDMI. The HD stuff looks great, but at a price. I could spend a bit more if I thought I was getting better stuff that was also up to date.

It's just that when I read positve processing comparisons between the 5308 and AVP-A1HCDI, I can't help but be swayed. I do like the extra channels offered in the 4810, but I'm not sure if I'll put them to use. I'm leaning to more power and a perceived better quality unit in the 5308, so that's where where I am.

Seems like brand loyalty is important to you...

What about some thing like this and get an amp with the power you need.

If you can convince my wife that that is the best route for me to go, I will be forever in debt. To both you and Citibank! I'd love the Anthem, I just don't think I can get there.
