Hello all. I'm new to this forum and noticed that accessories4less.com has the Mordaunt Short Avant 902 bookshelf speakers on sale for $199 a pair. Does anyone have any experience with these speakers? I'm looking for a small set of speakers for an apt. setup. I'm thinking of just going with one pair and a sub in a stereo setup with a Marantz receiver. However, I will be watching some movies as well with my 42" HDTV. So, how do the Mordaunts sound?(no dealer in my area). Also, is just going with 2 speakers and a sub the best option in an apt? I would like 5.1 but don't know how I would run the wires to the surrounds. Would the carpet have to be ripped up?

not sure about those speakers, but for the wires u can do it the easy way & run the wires together along the baseboard. i did it at my last house (im lazy) & no one ever saw it, the speaker cable was white so it blended in perfectly... u can secure it with those fasteners the cable company uses on their cable outside (& inside) your house. unless you feel like pulling up the edge of the carpet...

Fredejo, thanks for your reply. Do you have a suggestion for a compact 5.1 system for an apt? My primary listening will be music, mostly r&b but of course will watch movies also. Living room where the system would be is 13' by 14'

My suggestion is since your listening is mostly for music you do not go 5.1. Take your speaker budget and spend it on the two best (this mean sounds best to you, your ears only) front speakers you can afford.

Nick, do you have a suggestion for a good pair of bookshelf speakers that would pair well with a Marantz receiver? I'm thinking of going with this one:

For ~ $200 I like Paradigm Atoms. I own a pair. But I am not really familiar with other speakers in this price range.

Also around $200 dollars (a little more when you include shipping) are the Onix x-LS. They received a very impressive review on this site and I can also vouch for the sound quality!! Give them a looksee. www.av123.com

Thanks Pianoman. I will definitely consider those. It's impressive that they have real wood enclosures at this price point also. Any other suggestions?
