OK, I finally got my copy. Not bad. Hoffman did a real good job. The transfer does sound a bit mushy at times, and the center fill drifts a bit on a couple of songs (Rock the Nation, Station 5), but is completely benign. This is a nearly 40 yo recording after all. I'd give it a B+ versus a C+ for the original Warner Bros 16bit offering, which I've only listened to a couple of times. It certainly sounds better than the LP version I used to listen to 30+ years ago, but that's not surprising given the disparity between the rig I had then vs now. Current LP versions would probably be better sounding given current advancements in phono technology.
OK, I took a little gamble that paid off. I found the gold version on ebay from one of the large retailers that sell gobs of different things on there. The reason it was a gamble is, just like anything you get from these types of retailers/liquidators is that what you get ain't always what you pay for. They often use whatever stencils are available to list their stuff as efficiently as possible. These guys have the actual Hoffman Audio Fidelity gold version for half what everyone else is selling them for ($16 shipped). It was a deal that I couldn't pass up. Anyway, hope this helps.
