monoprice or blue jean

I am looking for HDMI cables, and have ready many reviews stating that "name brands" are not the way to go for runs under 10ft. I was wondering out of 'monoprice' and 'blue jean' which had a "better" construction....I know they are inexpensive.....but if something happens dont want to wait to buy another one.

Also, how is the web-site -accessories4less- I see they have cables for cheaps up to 70% off.....are the cable refurbished like some of the eletronics?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm not sure about BlueJeans but everything I've bought from MonoPrice has been incredible. Quality of the HDMI's is great, and I got the cheap ones, no problem passing any signals yet. The speaker cable I got was great also. Service has been fast and accurate too.

HDMI cables carry pure digital signals...they work or they don't. That said, the cables I have ordered from Monoprice have all worked extremely well and appear to be well constructed. Blue Jeans have a well deserved reputation for good cables and I suspect they are a notch above those from monoprice. Will you see the difference in the picture quality - no.

If you are worried about the remote possibility of sending a cable back to either company, especially monoprice....order two so you have a spare. You will still save money over the grossly overpriced "brand name" cables.

Accessories For Less is a good place; I've bought from them many times. For HDMI and DVI my money goes to Bluejeans. I have had excellent service from both Bluejeans and Monoprice though.

Monoprice all the way. I've now bought hundreds of dollars worth of product from both Mono and BJC. I've also bought rat shack, home depot, acoustic research, mon$ter, and tara labs.

Monoprice hdmi cables are actually thicker than my BJC hdmi cable.

Having bought plenty of 12 gauge in wall speaker wire from both, the red/black insulation is more delicate on BJC. The BJC's copper strands are already twisted, where the Mono wire is straight. The price difference is substantial.

I've used a 15ft, 35ft, now 25ft HDMI cable with PJ as I tinker with the room and setup. I think that was respectively about $10, $40, and $20, but just guessing. The cable is thicker than either the BJC or Monster cables I have in the rig, atm.

Even at over 10 ft would I stick with Mono.

The best thing about BJC is that they donate towards litigation vs Monster. However, the price difference is great enough that you could just donate your own money towards that cause, buy Monoprice, and still have a lot of money in the pocket.

If there was any issue, I would think I could notice on a 75 sq ft screen thrown up by my JVC projector in a dedicated theater, using native hidef sources exclusively.

JMO. Or... feel free to spend more. I don't care anymore. This has been beaten to friggin death.

Werd, Jamie actually recommended them to me originally. I just had a good customer service experience with them too:

http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?p=540832#post540832

Buying more XLR cables from them soon, the ones I have from them are tops. The rubberized insulation or whatever doesn't pull and scafe bad, and its mad thick and the terminations are like something you'd see on high-end/ripoff cables.

Didn't someone on here have a problem with their long cables though? Like HDMI over 20-ft they couldn't get their projector to accept 1080p or something? I vaguely remember something like that.

Not true. You can have digital degradation. Sparklies, HDCP handshake problems, and a host of other anomalies can affect "digital HDMI signals". HDMI is no different than ethernet/cat5 cables, there are just more wires.

And to answer the OP's original question, I have both BJC and Monoprice 35' HDMI cables and have had nary a problem with either of them.

I believe there is already a thread that PE sources their HDMI cables from Monoprice... (at least some of them), and Monoprice is cheaper.

Monoprice has always been a great experience for me. I never had any issues ordering anything from them. As for quality, I cannot compare bluejean to monoprice, but all items I got from them, they were top notice and best of all; the price is just AWESOME!!

I own stuff from Monoprice and Tartan (BJC Division); no issues with either. Monoprice has the edge when it comes to price, but I like supporting BJC because of their business practices.

I buy from Monoprice, actually recently just made a thread about a good customer service experience from them..

...I'd try BlueJeans, but their "looks like a 9 year old did it" website has steered me away every time. I'm not saying a website needs to be flashy, but, with the economy now you could hire a webdesigner for next to nothing, have pictures next to what your order, have an integrated shopping cart instead of paypal, get a real merchant account (instead of paying PayPals stupid rates).

I mean, it would be easy to have it where you select your ends, wire, etc. and it automatically updates the picture. But, even just some real pictures would be a start. I guess when I went shopping on that site, I was kinda like "eh, maybe if these people can't get a decent website they can't get good cables either, or buy them at the right price." But, *shrug*, maybe its my loss. :)

/end rant

This gets into a tricky issue. More about politics than anything else.

Blue Jeans Cable has made a concerted effort to demystify audio and video cabling. They provide some good information about cabling on their website and they pretty actively put up some mythbusters which go head to head with companies such as Monster which bilk consumers out of their cash.

Yet, Monoprice has built a reputation for simply providing product then letting word of mouth take over.

About a year ago, someone asked the same question, and I think about 80% of the people that responded here recommended BJC. Now, it's flipped and more are recommending Monoprice.

The plus side in all of this is that you are in good hands no matter who you go with. The recommendation is that you won't get noticably different quality with either company's cable. So, you have your own personal decision to make.

My personal decision leads me to use Monoprice every single time. But, I would never bad mouth or think ill of BJC because they are a fine company with an excellent product.

Agreed, I had sparkle problems with a 15 ft HDMI I bought from a local shop. I replaced it with a 15 ft from Monoprice and the sparkles went away.

I would put Monoprice in the best price catagory and BlueJeans in the best quility catagory when comparing the two. Easiest way to describe them.
