So.... I am thinking of getting a model 1 signature center from Totem. http://www.totemacoustic.com/products/center_channels/model-1_signature_center/specifications/

It's recommended power is from 30-150 watts. I am using a Pioneer SC 27 receiver with 140 watts/channel RMS at 8 ohms. This receiver is not built to run a 4 ohm speaker so my question is:

1) Can my receiver successfully run this center speaker which is rated at 4 ohms?

2) I am looking at the UPA 1 monoblock from Emotiva but it's power is at 350 watts into 4ohms... Is this going to damage the speaker?

please help!

It would be ok to run that center off your receiver, you don't need an external amp.

Your receiver should handle that speaker with no problem. If you decide you want a little more headroom, perhaps a 3 channel amp to run your front stage might be a nice upgrade...

you don't think it would over heat? Why do you think it's ok?
Because running a single speaker at 4 ohms will not be too much strain on the receiver. I have a friend who runs 4 ohm front speakers on his RX-V1900 with no issues. Just make sure you have adequate ventilation and you will be fine. I wouldn't reccomend running all 4 ohm speakers on your receiver, but just one or two won't hurt it. But you could always add a 2 or 3 ch. amp to ease the work your receiver is doing.
