My new Qualia 006, which cost a bundle, lacks a1080p imput. Does this mean I will not be able to fully see the new HDDVDs in full resolution or does that depend on the format finally adopted? This is really upsetting since the salesman never mentioned this future problem.

This awesome set is just a little ahead of the new sXRD Sony RPTV's that will have 1080P inputs later this year. While you will not be able to input a 1080P signal at your Sony's native resolution, you should be able to input a 720P or 1080i signal via digital input and the onboard scaler (which reviews have stated is excellent) will upconvert that signal to the native 1080P of the set. IF you onboard scaler is as good as claimed in reviews, you will not be missing anything when you purchase a high def DVD player and use its 720P or 1080i outputs.

How long ago did you purchase this set? Can you still return it? The fact that the salesman never mentioned it doesn't surprise. I've had a salesperson tell me that 1080i is as high as it's ever going to go. And that was less than 3 months ago. Either he had no clue what he was talking about or he really wanted to sell some televisions. I'm assuming it was the latter.

Regardless of what anyone may say, 1080p is 1080p, and 1080i is still 1080i. No upconversion or downcoversion, fudging, or wobulation can turn water into wine, although you can come pretty close. But I still wouldn't regret purchasing this television. Like MikeSP says, it's a very nice set and you will probably never notice that huge of a difference.
