What do you think of Monitor Audio Silver S2?

To pair with MA Bronze Centre and rear Bronze B1

or

pair with MA Silver Centre and rear Silver S1

Thinking of buying Marantz or Denon electronics....

I've tried to mix Bronze and Silvers that way and it's not very satisfactory. The Bronze Center isn't a very good match for Silver mains. You could get away with Bronze rears, but I'd rather have all Bronzes in front than mix and match with Silvers.

Naturally, all Silvers would be the ideal solution.

But how doa a pair of S2 handle as main front speakers?

Can I ask what system do you have?

I have Monitor Audio 7i's in front, FX/i's as surrounds (wired as Bipoles) with a 12i center. I use a Denon 3802 as a preamp & a pair of Hsu TN1220s run off the 500 W amp. I have a variety of DVD & CD players, and it's been a bit of a transport-go-round as I've tried a number of them from Sony, Philips & Pioneer. The cabling is a mix of Zu & homemade.

So far I haven't heard the S2, but it should have similar capabilities as the 4i's, and they're fine mains, so long as you have a sub. The new S2 actually plays a bit lower than the 4i & so should blend well with any good subwoofer.

I'm not really thinking of buying a subwoofer, but may consider it later as an upgrade, but not my priority.

After measuring my AV furniture I can't have Silver center for 1 cm! :(

What's left? Still Bronze center and rears with Silver fronts?

I just got a pair of MA S2's and I'll have to say that I'm very impressed with them. I've read the tweeter on the Silver's isn't anywhere near the quality of the tweeter on the Gold Reference, but I think it sounds great. The only high quality speakers I've been able to compare them with directly is the Vienna Acoustics Haydn's (I think that's what they were called, my friend's got a pair) and I preferred the sound of the S2 in everything but vocal music. The Vienna's really shined when producing voices, especially female. But the MA's aren't broken in yet and I paid a little more than half of what the Vienna's cost. So I highly recommend the S2's.

What source/amp are you using?

I'm using a Yamaha two channel receiver. I don't know the model number off the top of my head; but it's one of their current models - 85 watts/ch. I've actually never heard any of the bronze series speakers so I can't advise you on your center channel question. But at least in the looks department, the bronzes, I think, use a vinyl wrap that probably isn't going to look that great next to the Silver's, so that's one downside. You may check out the Epos M12 or 12.2. I have heard the M12.2's and they sound excellent, and Epos might make a center that fits your space. You can check them out at www.decibelaudio.com. That's one of the few sites I've seen that sells the higher models over the internet.
