Monitor Audio Silver RS6

Hello,

I've been reading a review of the Monitor Audio RS6, and it looked to be a good speaker set from the measurements taken. I thought I would ask if anyone here has these (or higher line) speakers, their opinions and if you have any comparisons.

(I'm not buying now. Am deciding if I want to build or buy. Have a pot of 333 bucks + 10$/day 5days a week. Want flat speakers for detail with no distortion (I'm listing wants not gets). Would like them to go up into the ultrasonic (to annoy the bats), and be time aligned. Wide dispersion would be nice. I'm patient to a fault (when does a virtue become a fault?))

During my audition time the Monitor Audio RS6 made it down to the final three. They are very good sounding speakers to me but you need to try to find some to make certain you like the sound.

"Distortion and be time aligned" ? I am uncertain what you are saying here. As long as you calibrate your AVR and dont push them to far, you will be fine.

I think you better start raising your budget with a statement like that...

If you want Low Distortion and Time Aligned speakers you better have some bank roll... because not many speaker makers implement that.

Vandersteen, B&W(only a couple I thinK 802D) and I know Wmax can chime in on others...

I was following a good thread on AVSforum just today, which got so far off topic it got deleted, but had some awesome useful info.

in fact I thought the way you started this thread you possibly were coming over here right from that topic...

Modded Infinity Primus 160s by WmAx (Chris) are damn linear according to him, they sure cost a lot less than the Nautilus 802s. The thing is that in his mod he uses active eqs/x-over and has them actively bi-amped. He has also calibrated them, and I am not certain as to how it is all done, but it seems difficult to me.;):D

He may be able to tailor the Infinity Primus 160 for a regular receiver with no active eq/x-over and bi-ampability. An improved passive x-over with modded cabinets could yeild some impressive results, but not as good as using active eq/x-over and bi-amping. It should be able to rival speaker systems costing much more after modification.

eh, I just found how I was mis-reading the graphs I was reading. These speakers aren't looking so nice anymore. Well, they still look like they stop on a dime, but...

Thanks for the article.

I was also looking at the Thiel CS3.7 (I think that's right). But haven't seen measurements for it. I like measurements right now, since I'm not activly trying to buy anything.

And I'm still thinking very strongly of building my own. I have a friend pushing toward active crossovers, and he promises we can time align the speakers that way. An idea I like more than tilting the box (doesn't the tweeter point up then, and high wavelengths are where dispersion suffers. That's why we aim those at our ears, right?) or building seperate baffles (sounds bad for diffraction to me).

I purchased RS6 with matching center for my HT room, wating for them to arrive as dealer ran out of their stock. I like the Monitor Audio sound, and everytime I hear them at someones else's house or at the dealer I get more convinced that they are one of the best speakers at their price point.

OTOH, my brother, with equal budget, auditioned with me and purchased the same week I did, but he went with PSB Image Series. He liked them better, plus found them at a deep discount.

So, as you can see, it comes down to hearing them, comparing, and deciding what sounds better to you. Personally, I highly recommend them.

Which Vandersteen are you referring to? Would it be the 2Ce Sigs? There is this guy on audiogon selling a pair in very good condition for $700 around houston area which I can pick up.
