Monitor Audio Silver 7i's for sale

For anyone interested, I'm selling my MA Silver 7i's. They served me well for several years, but have been relegated to my 2nd system- and they're too good for that, it's a waste. They've been well taken care of in a nonsmoking, no pet home. And lately driven by tubes, if anyone cares.;)

These are classic 2-ways that are mass-loadable and bi-wireable. They date from circa 2001. MA now has a Silver RS line; these are the older "i" series.

I'm asking $425 plus whatever is costs to ship. I've got the OBM. As noted in my A-Gon ad, I'll entertain trade offers, too. The trade can be something cheaper + cash or something more expensive and I pay you the diff, if it's something I'd want.

These have been replaced by other Monitor Audio speakers, but they're still first rate for music or HT. I felt like they were pretty competitive speakers for the price when they sold for $1,500, and at what I'm asking they're a stupid deal!:)

BTW, my Onix Melody SP-3 tubed integrated is also semi-for-sale. If someone was to want them as a combo, I'd probably work out some sort of deal. This really would be a killer deal for someone wanting to try tubes and get some nice speakers, too. All you'd need is a CD/DVD player and some cables!

Here's a rave for the SP3 from Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity. And here's Srajan Ebaen's rave review from 6moons.com.

Be advised the sale on the SP3 is over. I'm pretty sure they're back up to $999 new again.

Rob,

The MA's seem to get the "BRIGHT" rap. Would you please characterize your 7i's? If true, has this been tamed in the new models? What about the GR? Thanks.

That's hard to say. There are currently twelve (yes, 12  ) Silvers and five Bronzes in my house! So obviously I like the sound. I wouldn't call them bright by any means (and neither do any of the professional reviews). I set up my Onix Ref 1's side by side with the 7i's once, and the Ref 1's sounded seriously bright next to them.

I haven't heard the new RS line yet, so I can't really say. They very well may an improvement, but the best prices I've seen on them are still pretty close to MSRP due to their newness. My 7i's are really in very very nice shape- I probably would call them a 9/10 if the MA logo badge wasn't missing off one grill. I may be biased, but I honestly can't imagine what could possible touch them for the price I'm asking!

I can say that my MA's sound sublime driven by my Onix tube amp. Say what you will, Mtrycrafts- that's my flawed and unscientific opinion and I'm sticking to it.:D

BTW, the bass of the 7i's is shocking. No, it won't make your couch move, but the things are 30" towers with something like a 9" x 9" footprint. It's hard to believe the bass from just a single 6.5" driver. Naturally they run out of gas if you try to play something loud and percussive, like Metallica. But when used with a sub you can cross them over at 60hz with no problems whatsoever. Mine are ported in the rear. Some of the last production models had ports in front, if that matters to anyone.

I'll try to post pictures this weekend sometime.

Okay, I added some pics to my Agon ad. In the poor lighting of my place with the crappy camera they aren't the best, but they give you an idea.
