Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package DLC Sets PlayStation Network Record
By Mike Sharkey | May 19, 2010

Developer reports more than 1 million downloads of the $15 map pack.

Activision doesn't need a government bailout; the publisher has a massive stimulus package of its own. After breaking records on Xbox Live, the Stimulus Package map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has done it again on PlayStation Network.

Infinity Ward spokesperson Robert Bowling made the announcement yesterday via Twitter. "Thanks to the 1 Million+ @playstation users who helped the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package break day 1 & week 1 download records on PSN!"

The Stimulus Package launched on Xbox Live on March 30, and within 24 hours, the $15 map pack had been downloaded more than 1 million times, setting a Live record. And during its first week on the digital shelves, the DLC was purchased more than 2.5 million times -- another Live record.

PlayStation 3 and PC Call of Duty fanatics had to wait more than a month for their own Stimulus Package to launch on May 4, but they evidently didn't mind the lag. The high demand for the download wreaked havoc on the PSN Store Europe servers on launch day, to the point where gamers couldn't add money to their accounts and PSN store techs had to ask people to make purchases during non-peak hours.

And more Modern Warfare 2 DLC is on the way. Activision announced the Resurgence map pack will launch on June 3 for the Xbox 360. No dates have been provided for the PS3 and PC release.

$15 for 3 maps for a game that I'm pretty much bored of playing anyway? No thanks.

Same here as well, I just can't believe that a million people downloaded it.
