Model Replacement for the Denon AVR-5805CI?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone know's the the time frame that Denon would be expecting to release the replacement of the AVR-5805CI?

I've been toying with this idea for a while, here's my dilema. I live in Australia, the AVR-5805CI equivalent is only available in silver. Yes I know, how fussy can I be, but with a 19" rack with all my home theatre equipment which is all black, I can't bring myself to buy a component that really sticks out from the rest, no matter how good the device is. So what I'm thinking is buying one from the US. The US uses 60Hz and we have 50Hz, down converting the voltage (from 240V to 120V) isn't an issue, but nothing can be done about the frequency (so I'm told by an electrician). Would anyone know if this would cause me any issues with video or sound quality, etc? If Denon are intending on releasing a new model with all the whizz bang features soon then I don't mind waiting. I do understand that I wouldn't have a warranty in Australia but don't mind getting it repaired here if need be but doubt that would be an issue.

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Richard.

They just released the 5805CI a short while ago as an update to the 5805MKII so I wouldn't expect a new model very soon. That said, you just never know in the electronics world.

A quick check on the internet shows that international voltage/frequency converters do exist. I didn't look long enough to find a price, but I suggest that you look around. You might find something that will work just right for you!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.

Adam if you have any links it would be appreciated, in my quick scan I didn't find a component, only electronics parts that would do the trick and not being an electrical person wouldn't want to be making something myself, so something off the shelf would be good, that and I believe full current draw of the 5805CI is 13A so it would need to be a beefy unit :).

Richard, sorry for the delay - it took me a while to track these down again.

Here's one site: http://www.falconups.com/products-frequency-converters.htm

I didn't find a lot of sites for this, but I just wanted to let you know that such products do exist.

It would probably be easier and cheaper to see if you could get a black faceplate for that model and then just get the silver one designed for your local power system and replace the faceplate. :)

No worries, thanks mate.

Yeah I'm starting to think buying a spray can of black paint may be eaiser ;). Even with shipping the US version is also very well priced, here in Australia converted to US dollars we are paying about US$12,000 and that was another reason doing this crazy exercise :).

Thanks again, it's much appreciated.

The speculation is that the AVC-A1HD will be the AVR-5308CI, a step down from the 5805 (or between the AVC-A1XVA and the AVC-A11XVA, if you will). Further speculation is that the 5805 will be replaced by the new pre/pro. I saw it on the net, it must be true.

On the same page it does display the AVP-A1HD and POA-A1HD which is the combination you are talking about... but at 300W x 10 CH it may be a little overkill ;). And since it's Japan it's that goldie colour silver... what ever happened to good old black components :).

Anyone hear of any updates on the AVR-5308CI being released? Or the pre-amp and power amp combination will be the replacement for the 5305CI?

What about the Yamaha RX-Z11, it's black, it's huge, and it has a ton of features and power.:D

Thanks but even after being a faithful Yamaha owner a few years back I do prefer the Denon units, just call me too fussy ;).
