'Modding' power cable?

Yo guys, I need some help with my reciever [Denon DRA-395]. I would like to change the power cable on it from the $0.50 crap all recievers come with with this [http://signalcable.com/magicpower.html].

So, I can't just unplug the current power cable from my reciever [obviously]. My uncle tells me that, using needle-nose pliers, I can just pull that whole little rubber deal off, and underneath [gasp!] is a female connector for a new power cable [like the one above]. Can anyone please confirm or deny this?

Pardon the fuzziness, the camera didn't focus, and I can't move the reciever without pulling all my nicely routed cables with it.

Actually, there is no female plug on that. What you'll have to do is take the cover off the reciever and desolder the cable and then resolder your new cable.

Ok, well that's not happening ;p

Thanks anyway

There's really nothing wrong with the power cord that comes with recievers and amps and what not. They're big enough to supply the current needed.

mmk, I opened the top up, and [Francious is right]there is no way to do anything to change power cords. Which is okay, like you guys are saying, I'm sure it wouldn't really be worth the money. Just wondering if it was and option. Thanks for the help ;p

It is always an option;) But, not a very good one:D

If that component maker cannot design the right power cord for that component, you need a whole new component as the rest of the design would be going down hill. I doubt that is the case though.
You came to the right place for straight scoop:D

Even if you could mod the receiver with the best Furutech IEC inlet, a Signal Magicpower wouldnt make a difference. Its still ultra low grade copper and no shielding, just more of it.

Cords such as my Top Guns and Silver Electras DO make a difference, but you need a pre-amp or power amp capable of actually making use of such A level cords.

Haha, well I have noticed a difference upgrading from Monster Cable to other cables from that site, and I think before I get into your 'grade A' cables I should have a 'grade A' reciever/CD player/speakers first.

Oh please, think this through for crying out loud. Your power comes into your house and goes through 100' of $0.25 a foot romex and you think 3' of a super duper power cord that goes from your wall plug to your equipment will change things? And what kind of power cords were used in the recording studio? El cheepo generic is what. This expensive power cord thing boggles my mind.

End of rant.

DIY Power Cable

I made my own power cable. It was a fun project and it cost less than $40 - most of the cost was from the plug ends.

Oh, and I saw/heard NO difference, but it was fun...

Get some from the Cable Company, and try them for yourself. If you still think its all hype, send em back. Nothing to lose.

I wouldnt expect there to be one. The perfect power cord would pass 50hz-60hz signals, while completely blocking everything else. OFC copper and some cheap, hospital grade plugs dont do anything.

Not to start an argument, but what do you have to counter that, Dave?

That's what I like:D A fun project that only costs $40. You may want to add some lighting so you can see them all the time.;)

Block everything??? Then why did you pay for all those filter in the power supply? Ask for a refund and sent those filter back if you rely on your power cords to do their job.:D

It is a hype and a waste of time to try. There is absolutely no evidence of any of it helping. That is why we can think before acting;)

Counter what? I didn't see any evidence for any of the claims? What is there to counter? Back to ID;)
