I got the mackie HR824mk2 monitors for music listening. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mackie-HR824mk2?sku=601066 right now since I have no cd player I can just play music through my iPod to them. I am planning on buying a cd player eventually. but I had some other questions. instead of buying a pre/pro would an alternative to it be to just buy a mixer and hook a cd player up to it? specifically this mixer http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mackie-1202VLZ3-Compact-Mixer-120V-?sku=630131 because if all I have to do is hook a cd player up to it that seems cheaper than a lot of recievers or pre/pros. but is there a difference in sound quality? I was also considering this dj style mixer http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mackie-D.2-2Channel-DJ-Mixer?sku=634278 the reason for this is I use to dj. it actually has a firewire input that allows you to play music from your computer and record to your computer. but again, is sound quality worse or better using these mixers as opposed to a pre/pro?
