Mixed Speaker Impedance and Receiver Settings

Hello

I recently got an Onkyo TX-NR-777

I am using an old set of LG 5 channel speakers right now, which are all 4 ohm

I am looking to gradually upgrade these, starting with my front channels.

I would like to keep the old rear channel LG 4 ohm speakers going until I save up to replace them.

My main concern is that any newer speakers I buy will be 6 ohm or something other than 4. I am also concerned that in the receiver setting screen it asks me to specify my speaker impedance, and only gives me options for 4 or 6. The manual states that is supports 4-16.

I have done a bit of research on this subject but have been unable to find any clear answer so far.

To summarize: can I use 6 ohm speakers with 4 ohm speakers on the 4 ohm setting?

Hoping for a simple answer but welcome any supplementary information.

Thanks

Short answer leave the impedance switch on 8 ohms even if you have a mix. Selecting 4 or 6 ohms may limit the AVR’s power
