First, thanks for the repsonse to my previous question! (see "in-wall speakers" on 3/23/05). After doing some research I believe that it is possible to utilize in-wall speakers effectively. However, due to variability, cost, and complexity of installation, I have decided to use free-standing speakers. The front surrounds will be somewhat close(90" apart with the listening position approximately 120" away). And they will sit w/in the entertainment center.

Set-up considered:
fronts: Axiom n60ti
direct rear surround: Axiom m3ti's
sider rear surround: Axiom QS8
Sub: outlaw's LFM-1
Powered by: Yamaha RX V2500
Living room dimension:Big! Width: 22' Depth: 20' Ht: 12'

See 2 images: 1) side view which catches part of the front and future entertainment center area and 2) veiw toward rear of living room.

Considering the room specs. Does anyone see any obvious problems with this set-up. I'm sure that I'm falling short on the low frequency, but I want the sub to be musical and I'm limited on funds!

2 thiings come to mind. If you are going to have the Axioms "w/in the enterntainment center", you don't want to have them sit too far back, have the front of the speakers protrude from the side of the cabinet a bit so the cabinet does not disrupt the natural dispersion of the speaker.

Secondly, you should consider some type of area rugs for the tile floor otherwise the system might sound a bit bright. Beyond that it looks good and I bet you'll be happy with that set up

Yes! Where's your center speaker? Never put speakers in a cabinet, especially that close together. Mount them on the walls as far apart as you can for spacial effect. That room is going to sound like a gymnasium without some type of upholstry/carpeting/etc... Very nice room by the way. Low freq. will be fine if you can place the Outlaw in a corner.

Oh No!

The Axiom M60Ti's have rear ports. You'll kill them in a cabinet.

1) We have a huge area rug.
2) center channel is one of my DIY models very similar to the soloist...minus the scan speak drivers.
3) Thanks! I sometime forget the obvious. I don't know how I though I would get away with putting the speakers in the EC. However my concerns are many. With my baby on the verge of being a toddler I'm affraid my floor speakers have become, well let just say, dangerous. I'm begining to invision a fence aound the EC side of the living room. I can't be the only one with this problem....In-wall speakers?

Would it be problematic to set the speakers(M60ti's) in front of the monitor?

I wouldn't worry about your speakers. I have a 2 and 5 yr old and they just don't mess with them. Heck, we even have plants on them. If you are still concerned, they sell wall anchors for furniture in the baby isles of stores that you can attach to the rear of the speaker and wall to avoid a tip over.

Thanks, that is reassuring. My "DIY soloist" as front surrounds will have to go. They sit on speaker stands and have been knocked over before. Plus it is a good excuse to buy new ones. I have seen floor-standing speakers that feel more stable.

Anyone out there that owns M60ti's: How stable are they? Are they easy to push over?

Oh yeah, my question still hasn't been addressed. If I place the speakers in front of the entertainment center, and 12' apart will I run into any issues. I'm guessing the distance the divers would sit in front of the projector screen at the depth of the speakers plus a couple of inches.
