I have a 55 Mits HDTV that is about 2 years old. I only have 2 component inputs that serve 480i/p and 1 HDTV input that serves 480i/p and 1080i. I already have a DirecTv HD box and most recently acquired a Comcast Cable HD box. The trouble is that I can't hook up both boxes because I only have 1 input. I know that several companies make manual and automatic component switches, but I have a few questions.

1) Can't I just use a modulator from Radio Shack? Are the differences between a modulator and a component switch basically that the switch is certified to receive and retransmit at 75 ohms?

2) Can anyone recommend a reliable switch that is cost friendly and reliable?

3) Will there be degradation in the picture quality with the switch?

4) Why aren't all the inputs in the back of my Mits capable of receiving 1080i? Was there not a need 2 years ago? I know that all the new TVs as of a year ago have multiple inputs capable of receiving 1080i.
