I just did this Monday.. and I have a few pics.

Always wait an hour or more before doing this, and unplug the tv.

On the back of this particular TV, there are two Phillips head screws holding the cover for the bulb assembly. Remove them.

Then the cartridge that holds the bulb will be removed with two thumbscrews which are too tight to remove by hand.

Pull the cartridge STRAIGHT out, DO NOT ROTATE OR TURN it while taking it out. Glass will fall if you do.

Now you are left with this.

Wow, can you say dusty?

Then you split the case open to get to the bulb:

Take out the 4 screws and mounting brackets, take out the old bulb, put the new one in (using surgeon gloves and making sure there are no fingerprints/oil on the bulb) and reverse.

Yes, the vent was that clogged with dust. I now recommend cleaning a DLP set every 3-6 months to ensure longer bulb life. Our's lasted 15 months being on 10 hours a day at least :D

Thanks for the info... what is the best way to clean the tv, or would you just reccomend blowing out the vent with some compressed air?

NO compressed air. I strongly advise against using compressed air.
What you need to use is a vacuum cleaner. Once you get the bulb housing out (if you are changing the old bulb) you can use a little compressed air on the housing. Other than that, you should you stick to a vacuum cleaner.

Did you buy the new bulb locally or over the internet? Is the bulb rugged enough for shipment or is it relatively delicate. I am going on three years with about 4 hours a day average. Thanks for the info.

I think we bought it over the phone (from where I'm not sure but we found the store on e-bay and gave them a call).

They shipped it well, in a box full of bubble wrap 2" thick.
A sticker said "Fragile GLASS" on it. :D

They sent you a bare bulb? I replace bulbs in RPTVs nearly every day and it is always the entire bulb assembly that is replaced, never just the glass bulb.

My folks bought an aftermakret replacement bulb only for their Sony rear projection LCD tv on ebay and it seems to be just fine so far. So if you can save a few bucks by not getting the housing with the bulb, why not if it's that easy.

Well, yeah, the whole cartridge is about $300! **** that! :p
Spend $100, save me $200, remove 4 screws. Wow. It took me 10 minutes at most longer. Saved $200 :D

If you were doing it for a living (like you apparently) then the whole thing would save time and increase your profit. But for me... I'll save my $200 :D

Our's also has a one year warranty. Factory Osram part as well.
So, in all honesty, it's at least as good as the factory bulb (considering I didn't screw it up... or at least it hasn't died yet :D )
