Figured that would happen sooner or later, just thought it would be later. I have a Mitsubishi 73" and love it. Its 4 maybe 5 years old and I have had zero issues, in fact, I better check on when I got it because it came with a 5 year warranty which included 1 replacement bulb! I think I paid $1500 with the warranty, and you can't touch a comparable flat screen for double that. Sure it is deep, but still shallower than the stereo components sitting below it on shelves, so depth didn't matter to me. My only regret is that I didn't get the 82". When this thing dies, I be getting a projector, hopefully a Mitsubishi.

I'm surprised Mitsubishi even made DLP tv's for this long. It was just a matter of time before they discontinued them. I have a 5 year old 73" and while it gives me a decent picture, I'm ready for something nicer, but won't upgrade till it dies on me. I'm still on my original lamp as well, so I'm assuming that will be needing a replacement soon, at least those have come down in price drasticly. I would like to see more budget freidnly tv options in the 70"+ range. I know Vizio recently put out a 70" model, but it's so new, I've yet to hear that much about it.

Rear projection made sense right up to the point where Sharp delivered on 80" displays for under $5000.

Yeah, you can't get 73" for $3000, but you can get 70" for less than $3,000 and many will aruge that it is better than what Mits. can do with DLP.

Still, I'm wondering what becomes of Mits. after this. They aren't exactly a mainstream product on the floors at BB/HH stores. Their big stuff was a good quality VHS player back in the day and their rear projection DLP.

Will be interesting to see if they stick with consumer electronics at all moving forward once they bow out of the rear projection DLP market.

Wonder what this does for DLP which seems to have been sitting on its heels with advancements over the last few years. Just projectors left.
