quick question for owners of this projector or anyone who has any advice.

in the manual on page 24, it talks about how to power down the projector. I follow all the steps closely. Step 15 says to unplug it from the outlet when not in use.

Anone know if this is necessary? The projector is off but there is a power light still on when plugged in.

The only reason i ask is that my old infocus x2 was accidentally left on for 3 days even though i powered down the bulb. even know the bulb was off, there was still a switch to it to really turn it off. But after three days, it must've stayed warm in there because one of the mirrors came unglued (from the heat) and half the image was shaded.

any advice would be great

Mirrors coming unglued? Seriously?

I suggest you put your PJ on a UPS ASAP and turn off the UPS after use.

That bulb costs a lot to replace. A UPS can be picked up for like 60.

There is no reason to turn off the projector when not in use unless you have issues with leaving the projector on by mistake. Almost all businesses leave their projectors plugged in and almost all residential customers do. It's just a precautionary note that some manufacturers like to put into their product literature which generally has no merit. On the plus side, if your home gets an electrical surge, if the projector is TRULY unplugged then you will be mostly protected.

The X2 is notorious for the light tunnel going bad inside of it and you can pick up a new one for not a lot of cash if you are willing to open the projector and fix it yourself.

Yes, the light tunnel comes apart ALL the time on the X2 and some other InFocus projectors.

it seemed like an extra step to me

I have everything plugged into a power strip anyway for protection

Just a mostly off-topic story, but I did run into a client who had their system fried despite having a surge supressor.

The shock got onto their phone/satellite lines and then into their system. Didn't blow out the TV or receiver specifically, but blew the HDMI input on the TV (just one of three) and blew the HDMI input/output on the A/V receiver.

Make sure that EVERYTHING connected to your system is surge protected or don't count on anything actually being protected.
