Mitsubishi HC5500 Flickering???

Hey guys, I have an HC5500 that I have owned for six months now. There is only 304 hours on the unit and just today my picture started to flicker. The problem would come and go and I don't know why. Also when I switched to my channel guide (so I could see a picture with a white background) I noticed one small area of the screen appeared darker than the rest. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmm that does not sound good. Just to be safe I would check all your connections to the projector to be sure each connection is secure.

I don't know of any adjustment that would cause that and you should have uniform brightness across the screen.

Are you using the extra heavy duty filter? Maybe dust or something else is on the chip. I have read of several people over on AVS that have had a variety of dust blob issues. I would call Mitsu and see what they say. Depending on where you are it may be only a few day turnaround to have them check it out.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke with a Mitsu tech this morning and he said based on what I was saying that my lamp must be going bad. Good news is that I am still under warranty. Looks like I will be shipping my old lamp to them for a new one.

Did you buy yours before the free lamp rebate? Here is a link to the rebate. It goes back to 11/25/08 so that is more than six months. I know you will get this one under warrenty but it would be nice to have an extra expecially for free:D.

Generally, lamps are only covered for 90 days, but if Mitsu is taking care of you, that's great!

I thought it was 90 days as well but the guy on the phone assured me it is one year or 500 hours. Thanks for that link. When I purchased it I got a 500 dollar rebate but no replacement lamp. So I'm guessing it was just before 11/25/08. I'm still going to look into it though. Like you said, you can never have too many lamps laying around.

I just bought a Mitsu projector and it had a 500 hr/1 yr bulb warranty as well.

I sent my bulb back to Mitsubishi and within a week they sent me a shiny new bulb. Great customer service!
