I was looking online at the PDF of the Mits manual (I'm getting this tv) and it says not to hook up the TV to the receiver with an HDMI connection. Something about copywriting. Is this really accurate? Is there really any reason not to use the HDMI?

I was going to hook the satellite box directly to the tv so I would have turn everything on for non-critical viewing, but still wanted to be able pipe the audio for say HBO HD throught surround sound if I want and of course sending the best signal possible to the TV for blu-ray.

not sure what they are talking about, but yes, by all means connect your tv with HDMI, that's why they gave you 4 HDMI inputs on that tv. I have the 73733 and use HDMI from my receiver and it works flawlessly.

General statements

1) You cannot lose by running all video directly to the TV with the best connection you can.

2) You can always run an analog audio connection from a source to the TV's analog audio inputs for a source so you can bypass the receiver when you don't want the loud. You don't even have to turn the receiver on here.

3) Collorary to #2, you can also run a digital audio feed from the source to the receiver for when you DO want the loud. Just turn the TV volume all the way down when doing this.

When using #'s 2 and 3, you'll be using your TV for video selection and your receiver for audio selection when you utilize it.

In the earlier days of receivers with HDMI there were problems with HDCP handshakes which wreaked havoc with all kinds of devices. Those problems have been resolved.

I use my receiver for all video switching (all HDMI) because I always use the sound system.
